RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Here are some details to know if you plan to purchase items during the Commonwealth’s tax-free weekend.

Virginia’s Sales Tax Vacation will take place from August 7 to August 9.

During this time, customers will be able to purchase qualifying items for free from Virginia’s combined state and local tax rate, which is 5.3%. All other regional taxes, which differ, will also be abolished.

Certain school supplies, clothing, shoes, emergency supplies and Energy Star or WaterSense equipment will be exempt from purchase tax.

To qualify, these items must fall below a certain price. Specifically:

  • School supplies must be $ 20 or less per item.
  • Clothing and shoes must be $ 100 or less per item.
  • Hurricane preparation products have different limits, depending on the product. This includes phone chargers and batteries that are priced at $ 60 or less.
  • Energy Star or WaterSense devices must be $ 2,500 or less per item.

Include certain uneligible items:

  • Handbags, suitcases and wallets.
  • Barrettes, bows and hairpins.
  • Jewelry, watches and sunglasses.
