The Virginia Tech season opener was postponed to September 19 against Virginia due to “COVID-19 issues” at Virginia Tech, the school announced Saturday.
“After consulting with Atlantic Coast Conference officials, our University of Virginia counterparts, Virginia Tech’s campus leadership, and Virginia Tech Athletics Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mark Rogers, a mutual decision has been made to move the game of football between Virginia Tech. That, arising from COVID-19 issues at Virginia Tech to a later date in Virginia at Legion Stadium.

Virginia Tech also said it would suspend football activities for four days.
The Hookies are now scheduled to play their first game against NC State on September 26; The game was postponed from September 12 due to an increase in coronavirus cases in the Wolfpack Athletic Division.
Cavaliers first game 26 Sept. Will be against the Duke, the ACC announced. The date that was open to both teams. Schools originally had to play on November 14th.
The ACC also announced that the Miami game will be played on ABC on September 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Louisville, while the Georgia Tech household vs. UCF is pending at 3:30 p.m.
Virginia Tech Athletic Director Whit Babcock said in a statement, “The safety of these young men and women as well as their physical and mental well-being is our priority when it comes to caring for them by their families.” “While we share the disappointment of everyone hoping to start a football season against each of our state rivals, we are hopeful that the full ACC football .l schedule is due to the flexibility of the current constitution’s permissions.”
Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuente hinted at the issues during a zoom call with reporters Wednesday, saying he doesn’t think the Hookies will be able to play this week if they have to.
“I don’t know if we can be honest with you.” “I don’t know if we would have made it. I thought someone would ask me if we could play in this deal today, and I tell you I don’t know the answer.”
On its web page, Virginia Tech reported Friday that it had conducted 219 positive tests for coronavirus in the previous seven days, with a total of 633 infections since the test began Aug Aug.
The school does not disclose athlete-specific results.
Virginia on Saturday announced its latest numbers for athletes and athletic staff, saying Sept. It has had five positive tests since the last update of On. No positive results were found after the first report on July 24.
On Twitter, some Virginia coaches praised their players.
