Violent protests erupt in Portland’s NYC after Walter Vlace Lace shooting


Protests erupted in New York City on Tuesday when Portland witnessed a series of demonstrations in response to a police shooting in Philadelphia that resulted in the death of a black man.

Dozens of protesters were arrested Tuesday in Brooklyn after landing on hundreds of roads. There are reports of property damage in the downtown area.

“Due to the protest activity in downtown Brooklyn, expect the movement of vehicles and the large presence of emergency personnel in the area. Consider an alternative route and allow extra travel time,” the NYPD wrote on Twitter.

Police vehicles were damaged during the unrest, officials said. Trash cans, including the American flag, were also set on fire, according to a video posted on social media.

Demonstrations in Portland, which often turn violent, have become a regular occurrence in the city since George Floyd died in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25.

Demonstrations broke out in New York City and Portland amid two consecutive nights of unrest in Philadelphia, with about 1,000 robbers targeting businesses in the city on Tuesday.

Officials said Wallace – who was killed Monday – was armed with a knife and two officers were charged with firing on him.

Bystander posted a video of the incident on social media when officers showed him their guns on Wallace, ordering him to drop his weapon.

Wallace’s uncle, Rodney Everett, said officers could have used other tactics to de-escalate the situation.
