Vince McMahon reportedly made a major edit to WWE’s “Eye for An Eye” match of extreme rules

WWE President Vince McMahon was reportedly actively involved in the production of the first ever “Eye For An Eye” match during The Horror Show at WWE Extreme Rules on Sunday. That match saw Seth Rollins defeat Rey Mysterio by “extracting the eyeball” from his opponent.

Rollins vs. Mysterio, along with others Extreme Rules The games were recorded on Sunday afternoon at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, according to PWInsider. WWE needed to record the match so that all the necessary elements could be produced correctly. However, an important aspect that was recorded did not make the final cut due to a call from McMahon.

WWE reportedly filmed a complete sequence that would have made it appear that Mysterio’s eye appeared. The place wore prosthetic makeup. This moment was originally written to be what caused Rollins to vomit at ringside, which after the end he barely saw a fake eyeball pop out of Rey’s mask, with fake blood dripping down.

Vince reportedly hated the look of the special effect and sequence, and made the call to edit it from the final broadcast.

As noted, the word enters Extreme Rules was that WWE had plans to use CGI and special effects to achieve the “Eye For An Eye” finish. That was the original plan, but WWE ended up with the safest alternative.

It is still believed that WWE will keep Mysterio out of tonight’s RAW to sell the eye injury, while Rollins will face Aleister Black in individual action. It was reported earlier today that Rey is on RAW and is moving forward with the company. It may appear next week as that RAW episode is also being filmed today. It is still unknown if Rey has signed a new WWE contract, but you can click here for the latest behind-the-scenes update on his status and reason for the end at Extreme Rules.

WWE added to speculation that Rey would be retained tonight’s RAW with an update on the injury in history he suffered at Extreme Rules. As seen below, an injury history update was released today noting that WWE is still being treated at a local medical center, but is responding well to treatment. This update came after WWE aired a post-show story update on Rey last night, noting that he had been taken to that local medical center for treatment for a “possible balloon dislocation” injury. The story update also said that doctors were optimistic that Rey had an opportunity to maintain her vision “if the optic nerve is not cut and there is not too much tension in the blood vessels and nerves that connect the eye to the rest of head”.

Stay tuned for updates on the status of Rey WWE.
