Large crowds of unmasked revelers are filling the streets of Astoria and feasting as if there was no pandemic.
A video shot on Friday night shows hundreds of partiers filling Steinway Street as a New York police cruiser tries to pass and the police tell people to “get off the street.”
The crowd applauds as the car drives on, then fills the street again, plastic cups in hand. They stood in front of bars and restaurants, some of which had tables for dinner.
Later, a group of officers can be seen standing in a corner watching the crowds walking.
Another video posted to Twitter early Saturday morning shows people dancing and jumping up and down Steinway Street.
And Twitter user @vodkapond posted a video that seemed to show alcohol being sold in the back of cars and asked, “Is anyone going to do something about it?” labeling Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio.
The scenes are reminiscent of partiers who stalled St. Mark’s Place in the East Village in June during Phase One of the city’s reopening plan when eating outside was not allowed.
The city is expected to move to Phase 4 on Monday and Cuomo warned on Thursday that bars and restaurants that do not comply with state rules will have a “three strikes and you’re closed” mandate. He demanded that the food be sold along with alcohol and banned the walk-in bar service.
