Video shows officer rescuing man in wheelchair from tracks within seconds after train passes

A dangerous rescue in California was captured on the body camera of a police officer – and now that officer is being praised for risking her life to save another.

On Wednesday morning, Lodi police department officer Erika Urrea tracked down a man in a wheelchair who appeared to be stuck on railroads, the police department wrote on Facebook. Urrea noticed that the railroads crossing poor people were coming down and a train was approaching. So, she jumped out of her patrol car and ran towards the man.

Her body camera material – which was shared by the department on social media and has since gone viral – lets her reach out to the man and ask if he can come up. She then pulls him out of his wheelchair, getting him just an inch of the tracks seconds before the train passes.
