Video: Governv. David Ege joins the Honolulu Star-Advertiser spotlight Hawaii

In preparation for the reopening of Trans-Pacific Travel on October 15, Governor David Ege said he was ready to welcome tourists to the island of Hawaii. Passengers who have documented a negative COVID-19 test, administered 72 hours prior to arrival, will be able to bypass the state’s mandatory 14-day quarantine.

“We believe we won’t see a big start in visitors coming here, but we hope that by bringing transpacific visitors back to our island we will be able to slowly revitalize our community,” Ege told Spotlight Hawaii in a live interview. In the morning.

Passengers who fly directly to neighboring islands will also be able to bypass the quarantine, but once those visitors leave the airport, they will have to be segregated if they choose to travel to other islands within the state.

“If you’re flying straight to ah hu, spend a day or so here, it doesn’t translate. You can come to Oahu and not be subject to quarantine, but if you then take an inter island flight you will be subject to quarantine again. “

The governor said he is meeting with the county mayor today and will get an update on inter-island plans this weekend. It now stands to reason that travelers from Oahu must keep them separate if they visit a neighboring island, but travelers from neighboring islands do not come to Oahu.

“I am working with the mayor to identify you, what the health metrics will be so that we can leave the Inter Island Quarantine. I know, and when I talk to residents, especially on neighboring islands, they are concerned because they see some cases of the virus on Oahu, ”Ig said.

The governor also talked about new call centers and the state’s Hawaiian restaurant card program to handle unemployment claims. Eligible residents will receive the 500 pre-loaded debit card in the mail for use in Hawaiian restaurants. The program aims to help residents who have lost their jobs, while also promoting local restaurants.
