Vickie’s Diner, one of the oldest dinners in Las Vegas, closes permanently on Sundays

Vickie’s Diner, one of the oldest in Las Vegas, closes on Sunday after the building’s landlord ordered the restaurant to be unlocked.

George Knapp of 8 News Now reports on Twitter that the landlord closed the dinner until August 26th.

Uncle Vickie Kelesis’s uncle, Pete Kelesis, originally owned the restaurant that opened in 1955 in White Cross Drugs. Legend tells of famous clients including Rat Pack members and Elvis Presley filling out their presents at the pharmacy on Las Vegas Boulevard. The former diner, Tiffany’s, was famous for its breakfast menu for people from a less well-heeled heritage, red vinyl seating, and the walls of unlocked store-style, outdoor art paintings.

Vickie’s took over the space in 2014. White Cross Drugs closed in 2012 and became White Cross Market, which closed in 2015. That 22,000 square foot space is still available for loan.

Vickie’s Diner joins other recent COVID-19 restaurant closings, including both locations of Miller’s Ale HouseSweet Tomatoes Buffets, Ricardo’s Mexican Restaurant, Hamptons and Brio Tuscan Grille at Tivoli Village, Ben’Zaa Cantina in Centennial, served in Henderson, Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro and Lagasse’s Stadium at the Palazzo, and Sin City Brewing Co. Eater 38 stalwart Sage permanently closes at Aria, along with Shawn McClain’s other restaurant there, Five50 Pizza Bar. And Smashburger has closed three of its local restaurants.
