Vancouver’s PeaceHealth staff, COVID-19 outbreak among patients

The outbreak of Covid-19 last week spread 30 patients at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, according to a report from PeaceHealth on Friday evening.

No patient was admitted because of the virus, and no one tested positive for admission.

In addition, six employees caring for patients also tested positive for the virus, and 86 employees self-infected due to the outbreak of PeaceHealth.

It is not clear where the building or buildings erupted.

“Our infection prevention experts immediately began a thorough review to understand the root causes of the condition and to ensure greater safety for our patients and caregivers,” said Lawrence Neville, MD, chief medical officer, News Medical Officer. “This is a very complex exposure, and we continue to investigate the situation and put in place control measures to prevent further contagion.”

Clark County Public Health and PeaceHealth is reporting potential open patients, the news release said.

“Unfortunately, this is a reminder that covid lives in our community and it spreads very quickly,” Neville said. “We should all be aware of physical distance, wearing masks and limiting our gatherings.”

PeaceHealth, a for-profit Catholic health care organization, is located at 400 NE Mother Joseph Place, Vancouver.
