A group of major U.S. utilities, Tesla, Uber and others, said Tuesday they are launching a new group for the national policies lobby to boost electric vehicle sales.
The new Zero Emission Transportation Association seeks to accelerate consumer electric vehicle incentives and the retirement of gasoline-powered vehicles. It also advocates strict emissions and performance standards that will potentially enable full electrification by 2030.
Under President Donald Trump’s presidency, the White House rejected new tax credits for electric vehicles because it proposed to kill existing credits and facilitate the sale of gas-goose vehicles.
President-elect Joe Biden promises new tax wages, new exemptions for the purchase of EVs and the dramatic expansion of charging stations for electric vehicles – policy measures automakers have long advocated.
“We could have an electric vehicle market – build 550,000 charging stations – and create more than a million better jobs at home – the federal government is investing more in clean energy research,” Biden said Monday.
Biden’s move is in line with the group’s call for “strong federal charging infrastructure investments” and the goal of reaching 100% sales of electric vehicles by 2030.

California is the largest auto market in the U.S., accounting for about 11% of all U.S. vehicle sales. Many states have adopted its green vehicle mandate.
