UTC, Department of Health announces COVID-19 exhibits at Fraternity House

The Hamilton County Department of Health, in partnership with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, is announcing to the community of possible COVID-19 exhibits at Kappa Sigma Fraternity House, located at 927 Vine Street, Chattanooga. Potential exhibits began Saturday, August 8 and continue today, Saturday, August 15.

Case studies revealed that UTC students and community members who have visited or are currently living at the fraternal home may have been and / or are currently exposed to individuals during their COVID-19 infection period.

The UTC COVID-19 Campus Support Team is looking for student contacts who may have been exposed. It is recommended that those who have been in contact with members of the fraternity since August 8 be tested and self-monitored for symptoms. UTC prospective students are required to complete the COVID-19 notification form, which may be found here and / or to call the Student Outreach and Support campus office at (423) 425-2299.

UTC community members are encouraged to respond to communication tensions by the UTC COVID-19 Campus Support Team. Cooperation with these efforts is critical to limit the spread of the virus.

The Hamilton County Department of Health is working to identify and contact residents of Chattanooga and surrounding communities who may have been exposed.

“If you are exposed to someone with the virus, you should keep 14 days of quarantine from others, check yourself for symptoms and get tested,” said Health Department Manager Becky Barnes.

If COVID-19 symptoms occur, do not leave your home unless you visit a test site as a health insurer. If symptoms worsen, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, recent change in smell or taste, headache, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, or other symptoms as recognized by the GGD.

“The university is taking all necessary precautions to protect the UTC community, as fall semester classes begin Monday,” said UTC Chief Epidemiologist Dawn Ford, “Months of planning and preparations at UTC have resulted in comprehensive health care and safety protocols and precautionary measures for the protection of students, faculty and staff. “

In addition to contacts, UTC has sources and other information about what happens if a positive case of COVID-19 is reported at UTC. See the UTC website for more information.
