State health officials say the result of a positive COVID-19 test in Utah on Tuesday has risen sharply, reaching an all-time high – indicating that many infected people are not being screened, state health officials said.
Statewide, Utah’s positive test rate has been above 5% since May 25, according to data from the Utah Department of Health (UDOH). The previous high was 10.57 per cent on July 19.
With 562 new coronavirus cases reported on Tuesday, Utah’s new diagnosis rate fell short of the governor’s target of less than 400 cases a day.
The UDOHA said that over the past seven days, Utah has an average of 521 new positive test results per day. Gov. Gary Herbert said he wanted the state to bring down 400 new cases every day on Sept. 1, a goal Utah met in mid-August, but exceeded it again this month.
The virus continued to spread rapidly in Utah County, with 198 new cases reported Tuesday – the highest county in the state. Over the past seven days, Utah County has an average of 16 new states per 100,000 people per day, compared to 16 in 16 states and 16 in Salt Lake County.
