Notre Dame and USC will not meet in 2020 for the first time since 1945. There will be more to come that Monday later, as the commotion still feels fresh, but for now an old Notre Dame pledge and now the USC broker is not. I hate that there isn’t a battle for jeweled shillelaghs in 2020.
Markese Stepp, a longtime Notre Dame pledge in the 2018 recruiting class, pulled out of the Irish pledge in favor of USC. The Indianapolis native was not exactly thrilled to hear the news that the rivalry was suspended over the weekend.
The 6-0, 235-pound runner has lost both games he’s played against Notre Dame to date, but it was a bit tricky for the Irish last year when he ran for an 82-yard personal record and a touchdown during Notre Dame. . in mid-October victory over the Trojans.
Even if he abandoned his Notre Dame engagement for USC’s ketchup-and-mustard-stained look, I think all Irish and Trojan fans can find a common ground by feeling exactly the same about the fact that this rivalry will not be played in 2020. .
Hopefully we have college football throughout this fall.
