(Reuters) – UK-based Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc (RB.L) said Tuesday that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved the use of its Lysol Desinfectant Spray against COVID-19.

The U.S. EPA said in a statement that the agency had approved two products, Lysol Desinfectant Spray and Lysol Desinfectant Max Cover Mist, based on laboratory tests that showed the products were effective against COVID-19.

Reckitt Benckiser reported record first-quarter sales growth and predicted stronger-than-expected performance in 2020 as customers stocked up on Lysol disinfectants, Mucinex cough syrup, and Dettol soap before the coronavirus blockages.

“Lysol is currently testing the efficacy of other disinfectant products in the brand portfolio,” said Ferran Rousaud, director of marketing for Lysol, in a statement.

Lysol’s parent company warned people against using disinfectants to treat the new coronavirus, after United States President Donald Trump suggested investigators try to put disinfectants into patients’ veins.
