The US government has proposed changing the definition of a shower to allow increased water flow, following complaints from President Donald Trump about his hair routine.
Under a 1992 law, showers in the US could not produce more than 2.5 gallons (9.5 liters) of water per minute.
The Trump administration wants this limit to be applied to each nozzle, instead of to the total fixture.
Consumer and conservation groups argue that it is disgusting and unnecessary.
The changes were proposed Wednesday by the Department of Energy following complaints from Mr. Trump at the White House last month.
“So shower heads – you take a shower, the water does not come out. You want to wash your hands, the water does not come out. So what do you do? You just stand longer than or you take a shower longer? Because my hair – I do not know about you, but it must be perfect. Perfect, “he said.
Andrew deLaski, executive director of the energy-saving group Appliance Standards Awareness Project, said the proposal was “stupid”.
With four or five or more sprinklers, “you could have 10, 15 gallons per minute out of the shower head, literally probably washing you out of the bathroom,” he told the Associated Press news agency.
“If the president needs help finding a good shower, we can point him to some great consumer websites that will help you identify a good shower that provides a thick wick and a good shower,” he added. hy.
David Friedman, vice president of advocacy at Consumer Reports, said showerheads in the U.S. are already “reaching high levels of customer satisfaction” while saving people money.
The proposal could face court battles as it progresses, Reuters news agency reported.
