Odds and Ends
– Jalen Hurd left the practice on Sunday with an unknown leg injury. Shanahan said he would be “surprised” if Hurd did not suffer ACL tears. Hurd is set to undergo an MRI, which if signs lead to a tear, the recipient will be out for the season.
“It’s a very sad thing for him,” Shanahan said. “We know what he went through with his back last year. The man worked as hard as anyone in our team to get back. For him to get hurt before he actually had to get out of there – just a freak thing in the air. “I feel really bad for the boy. But he’s coming back next year.”
Without Hurd, the 49ers could seek to add help to the receiver position with available free agents. San Francisco can also look to Jennings, the team’s seventh-round pick and one of the higher, bigger receivers on the 49ers roster.
“Jauan is a decent comparison. He’s great and he really has the mentality,” Shanahan said. “It’s definitely harder for rookies, misses all the OTAs. But he has the mindset, he has the talent and he has the commitment to go out and do it.”
– The 49ers expect Arik Armstead (tight tightness) to return to practice on Thursday. The team will hold a session on Tuesday before a player is on Wednesday.
– According to Shanahan, the 49ers will continue with ease in the tight end Jordan Reed. He spent the time conditioning through the first three days of camp. The 49ers expect him to participate in team drills next week.
– Cornerback K’Waun Williams missed his second-straight practice on Monday with bald tightness. According to the head coach, Williams is in the same boat as Armstead.
“He could go if he wanted to or if we really needed him,” Shanahan said. “Nothing too big.”
