Update of Fossil Gen 5 breaks Google Pay

Earlier this week, a major update was announced for Fossil’s Gen 5 lineup, but it appears that a problem has been caused. Some users who have the update on Fossil Gen 5 watches are reporting issues with Google Pay.

Fossil Gen 5 watches include the likes of Skagen Falster 3, Diesel Axial, Fossil’s self-branded Carlyle / Julianna, and other watches. They are all set to include new features, including a Wellness app, sleep tracking, and more. It’s good game, but for some, the upgrade may do more harm than good.

On Reddit, a “megathread” has been made about this latest update, and it only takes a few moments to see users who are having issues with Google Pay following the Fossil update. The biggest problem so far seems to be breaking Google Pay. For reasons not very clear, the app thinks updated Fossil models are rooted / changing, and Google Pay is blocking that kind of thing.

The people about to Android Police have tracked down a few reports from users who can patch this themselves successfully. One user, u / bobigadza, mentioned that diving into the Google Play Play Store list and tapping “Enable” fixes things. This may not work for everyone.

We have invited Fossil for comment, but we have yet to get an explanation or answers. This article will be updated as / when we hear back.
