HTC may be in dire straits, but the Taiwanese company plans to launch a brand new Desire 20-series smartphone on June 16th.
It’s very rare that we’re even talking about HTC, because we already know that the company has essentially given up on flagship smartphones. The last device with HTC brand with what we could consider as “flagship” internals was the HTC Exodus 1, which was released in 2018 – what feels like a decade ago seeing the current state of 2020.
[Update 08/13]: The HTC Desire 20 Pro has it now officially went on sale in several European countries including the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, Poland and the Netherlands with 24-August pre-orders.
The midrange device comes in 6.53-inch with an FHD + screen in a resolution of 1080 by 2340 – though no word on if this is an LCD or AMOLED panel. This latest HTC smartphone relies on the Qualcomm 665 chipset, 6 GB RAM, and will include 128 GB internal storage that can be expanded via microSD card.
Like many other affordable Android phones, the HTC Desire 20 Pro comes with a huge battery of 5000mAh. It can be supplemented with QuickCharge 3.0 speeds – though, again, no direct fix at exact speeds.
On the back, the quad camera consists of a 48-megapixel main sensor, 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, 2-megapixel macro sensor, and 2-megapixel depth sensor for false bokeh effects. Those four rear lenses are connected by a 25-megapixel selfie camera in the punch-hole top left.
You can pick up the HTC Desire Pro for £ 269 or € 279 – which is about $ 350 – in one color in grayscale. That pricing is not bad considering the package offered here. Although it is still an emerging battle for HTC to make any progress in global markets given the intense competition from other OEMs in recent years.
In the meantime, however, a number of cheaper HTC devices have been released, but none have really brightened up the market or gained much traction. Despite some rumors and fans knocking for a while, the HTC Desire 20 is set to be unveiled on June 16 after being confirmed on the HTC Taiwan Instagram account.
We do not know much about what the device can bring to the table, but the image shared on Instagram shows a punch-hole-notch at the top of the display, while the shadowy camera module looks at at least three lenses to house – with a potential fourth hidden from view. At this point, we’re just speculating based on the announcement image of HTC Desire 20, but even if this is a budget smartphone, none of these inclusions could be beyond the realm of possibility.
Rumors specifications of the HTC Desire 20 include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset, 6GB of RAM, an FHD + screen, and Android 10. That would put this upcoming smartphone slap bang in the middle of the mid-range, though it does is highly competitive space that is likely to break harder than the flagship market than of late.
Will we see the worldwide brands of HTC Desire 20? At this point we are not sure, but it would be interesting to see exactly how fans and detractors react. With that in mind, are you happy to see potential that HTC is making a splash with a new smartphone? Should they stick to VR? Let us know in the comments section below.
