Unrest over deadly police shooting in Lancaster, 8 arrested from outside county, results


Police in Lancaster, Pa., Arrested eight people early Monday. On charges linked to unrest that erupted after Ricardo Munoz’s deadly police shooting.

Police said officers responded to the scene after reports of domestic unrest. The county’s district attorney said the body deck video showed a munoz of 27, in which an officer was attacked with a knife and shot several times.

More than 100 protesters took to the streets outside the police station as a result of the deadly shooting. Authorities said protesters hurled various items at officials and damaged a building, a parked vehicle and a nearby post office.

“We also get calls from downtown business owners all morning because they damaged their businesses by sabotage,” police said.

Officials said the four suspects were from outside Lancaster County and two were armed with handguns that turned violent during the protests.

The charges against the eight include arson, institutional sabotage, carrying a weapon without a license, rioting, disorderly conduct, misconduct and obstruction of highways and other public roads.

Police said the two suspects- Jamal S., 24, of Lan Lancaster. Frank Gaston, 43, of Newman and Efrata, is listed as homeless and on probation.

Others charged during the unrest include Barry Jones, 30, of York, and Joshua D., 23, of York. Matthew Modderman, 31, of Montague, Lancaster, Telia Gassner, 18, of York, Katherine Patterson, 20, of Merseysburg, and Taylor were involved. Mannheim’s 20-year-old Interline.

Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams said Monday that “this office fully supports the right to gather fees and protest peacefully, however, the riotous behavior displayed last night is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

Police said a handgun was found by officers after the arrest and additional charges are likely to be filed.
