UNC-Charleston: Roy Williams postgame

Chapel Hill, NC — North Carolina won its first win of the 2020-21 college basketball season at College of Charleston, 79-60, Wednesday night.

The Cougars fought back from a 14-point deficit and took a 43-42 lead to play for 15 minutes. The size of the UNC proved very low and impressive play of its young freshmen, however, when Tar Hills went ahead 17-0 and dropped the season-opener.

Caleb Love and Ryan Davis became the first pair of new players to start the game for the UNC, followed by Ty Lanson and Wayne Ellington in 2007. Love led all scorers with 17 points. He made 4-for-11 from the floor and 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Davis added 11 points in 4-for-9 shooting.

The newcomers took the stage by outscoring the returning Tar Heels, 50-29. D’Ron Sharpe scored a double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, five of which were offensive boards. Garrison Brooks had a low-scoring night (six points) but contributed with his defense (two blocks) and rebounding (high 11 rebounds on the team).
