Unboxing Microsoft’s Surface Duo: Here’s what comes with the dual-screen phone

De Microsoft Surface Duo may be one of Microsoft’s most unusual experiments. It is a dual-screen Android phone. And I have one. But for now, I’m just looking into the box.

A full review of the Duo is coming in a few weeks, but in the meantime I opened it up to see what’s in it. I got a look at a transparent version of the Duo to watch his circus a few weeks ago but did not have the retail equipment. We do not know the international price of the Duo yet, but the price tag converts $ 1,399 to about £ 1,070 or AU $ 1,960.

The Surface Duo comes with the Duo (of course), USB-C charger, and rubber bumper. No Surface Pen.

The Duo comes with a USB-C charger and a weird rubber bumper that sticks to the Duo to protect it. Microsoft claims the Gorilla Glass-coated Duo is sturdy, but I have no idea how well it will survive a drip. The bumper is a sign that you may need to handle it carefully.

One thing the Duo does not have is a pen style. The Duo is compatible with Microsoft Pen, but Microsoft does not include a pen in the box. I would have one preference over a USB-C charger.

Because I have a Duo and the transparent special model, I thought I would compare.

Duo, meet Duo. (The right is a special demonstration version with glass to see the interior.)

Sure enough, they feel identical. The hinge is extremely smooth and stable-feeling in most corners, and the sleek book-like design is personally even better … to hold, at least.

Will the Duo keep its promise to be a dual-screen productivity savior for phones? I can not say yet. But I will let you go as soon as possible.
