Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on urgent measures to stabilize the situation in the energy sector and further develop nuclear power. The corresponding decree was promulgated on September 22.

This was reported by the press service of the Presidency.

According to the document, the Cabinet of Ministers within two months must submit for the consideration of the Verkhovna Rada bills on the location, design and construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant.

In addition, the government is obliged to submit to the Rada for consideration amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding the improvement of the mechanism of use of funds from the financial reserve for the dismantling of nuclear power units, formed in accordance with the law “On the rationalization of issues related to nuclear safety”.

In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers should develop a long-term program for the development of nuclear energy as part of the implementation of the Energy Strategy of Ukraine for the period until 2035 “Security, Energy Efficiency, Competitiveness”.

In addition, the government must guarantee the improvement of the management of the state company Energoatom. In particular, to accelerate the preparation and implementation of the corporatization of the company and urgently resolve the issue of transferring the management functions of this company to the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to the decree, the government must take comprehensive measures to pay off the debt that has arisen with electricity producers in the public sector of the economy as a result of their performance of special duties of participants in the electricity market to ensure the interests in the process of operating the electricity market and ensure that such debt does not arise in the future.

Let us remind you that construction of the largest ITER thermonuclear experimental reactor has started in France. This could be a breakthrough in energy due to the “environmental friendliness” of nuclear fusion.
