Car customs clearance: Kiev scammers issued fake certificates

During the pre-trial investigation, 22 fraud episodes were identified.

Clients were searched through advertisements on the Internet. To do this, a website was created on behalf of one of the private companies that provide certification services for cars imported into Ukraine from the EU and the US:

The group consisted of four people, among whom the organizer was a 33-year-old resident of Kiev and three of his accomplices, residents of the Kiev and Zhytomyr regions.

Violators informed potential clients about the possibility of certification without going through the official online procedure using photographs of vehicles and their documents. They estimated their services at 4,500 thousand hryvnia. After payment was made, customers received false documents in the mail.

Authorized searches were carried out at the place of residence of the defendants and at the office premises, during which the equipment was seized, with the help of which false certificates, telephones, SIM cards and work documentation were printed.

The suspicion was announced to the organizer and three of his accomplices. They face up to 12 years in prison.

The police emphasize that the current procedure for certifying cars according to the state standards of Ukraine, which were imported from abroad, is carried out only by authorized legal entities under the conditions of a direct examination of the car by a specialist.
