Vitaly Markiv is due to undergo medical rehabilitation, after which he will continue his military career.
President Vladimir Zedensky met with a member of the National Guard, Vitaly Markiv, who was acquitted by a court in Italy. This was reported by the press service of the head of state on Wednesday, November 4.
During the meeting, the president said that the release of the Ukrainian soldier is a victory for Ukraine at the international level.
“You’re great. I congratulate you, it’s very nice to meet. It’s great that we have such fighters. We did everything in our power,” Zelensky said, adding that Markiv is an example to many.
In turn, Vitaly Markiv thanked the head of state for his support, noting that the commander-in-chief does not abandon his own. The National Guard also said that during his imprisonment in Italy he wrote and read a lot, especially studied the history of Ukraine.
“Every drawing, every letter they sent me, I saved and brought it. This decision is a victory for the whole team and, above all, truth and justice,” said Markiv.
The head of the Interior Ministry, Arsen Avakov, who was present at the meeting, noted that Markiv must undergo medical rehabilitation, after which he will continue his military career.
We recall, on November 3, that the National Guard Vitaly Markiv was acquitted by the Court of Appeal of the city of Milan in the case of the murder of an Italian journalist in Donbass. All charges were dropped.
The next day, Markiv flew to Kiev, where they arranged a meeting with the honor guard and the orchestra.
