Trident-2020 rapid military exercises begin in the Lviv region. Some 4,000 soldiers from 10 countries will participate in them.
During a visit to the Lviv region on Thursday, September 17, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy participated in the opening of the Rapid Trident-2020 military exercises.
Speaking at the International Center for the Maintenance of Peace and Security, the president named the return of the Ukrainian territories and a strong army as his priorities.
Zelensky recalled that integration into NATO is a strategic objective of Ukraine, therefore, it is necessary to achieve compatibility of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the armies of the alliance countries as quickly as possible, as well as to intensify reforms to obtain membership in NATO.
He called exercise Rapid Trident 2020 as an important step towards NATO: it should increase the level of training and operational efficiency of Ukrainian troops, as well as improve the compatibility of the headquarters of Ukraine, the United States and other NATO members.
To receive an invitation and join the NATO Membership Action Plan, Ukraine must speed up reforms, the president said.
He recalled that the other day he approved a national security strategy, according to which NATO membership is Ukraine’s strategic course.
About 4 thousand soldiers from 10 countries will participate in the Rapid Trident 2020 exercise. They will last until September 25.
