Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on his resignation due to late informing the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption about changes in the status of his family’s property. He stressed that this was the result of an error and is not a reason for his resignation as head of state.
This is stated in Zelensky’s response to an electronic petition.
He asked the head of state to resign for violating the law “On the prevention of corruption” due to the non-declaration of income from the sale of national government bonds (OVDP). In mid-July, he received the 25,000 votes necessary for the president’s consideration.
The petition states that on April 18, 2019, on the “Right to Power” program, presidential candidate Zelensky promised to resign if he breaks the law.
“On July 7, 2020, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted that he failed to declare income of 5.1 million UAH from the repayment of government bonds and thus violated the law” On the prevention of corruption ” We appealed to Mr. 4 days before the second round on April 18, 2020, he lied to his voters, “he says.
Zelensky, in turn, stressed that the words of his promise to leave the presidency of Ukraine in the event of a deliberate violation of the law “are taken from the context of the conversation on the inadmissibility of the existence of corruption schemes in the government” . He assured that his position on this issue remains unchanged.
“As for the violation, which, according to the author of the petition, is the basis for my announcement of my resignation from the presidency of Ukraine, … it occurred as a result of a mistake and is not related to selfish motives,” he said the head of state.
He also stressed that immediately after the discovery, the error was publicly recognized and corrected, and “its consequences did not harm the interests of citizens or the State.
“Taking into account the above, I inform you that no decisions are foreseen in accordance with this request,” Zelensky summarized.
Recall that on July 7, Zelensky personally informed the NAPK about the violation of the law: he did not declare the purchase and sale of national government bonds on time.
As RBC-Ukraine wrote, in response, the agency wrote two administrative protocols to Zelensky for the premature submission of a report on significant changes in the status of the property, the materials had to be presented to the court.
