Ukraine’s highest title “for heroism and selfless actions displayed in the line of duty” was given to the commander of the aircraft, pilots and flight attendants.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Order of the Gold Star to the crew members of Ukraine International Airlines JSC flight PS752 who died in a plane crash in Iran in January. 2020, reports the press service of the Office of the President.

Zelensky signed the corresponding decree No. 600/2020 on December 29.

“For the heroism and selfless actions shown in the line of duty, the title of Hero of Ukraine was posthumously awarded to the aircraft commander Vladimir Ga poneko, the aircraft commander – instructor pilot Alexei Naumkin, co-pilot Sergei Khomenko, assistants senior flight attendants Yekaterina Statnik and Igor Matykov, flight attendants Denis, Maria Mikityuk, Valeria Ovcharuk and Yulia Sologub, “the press service said.

It was also reported that the title of Hero of Ukraine was posthumously awarded to the CEO of the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau, Alexander Degtyarev.
