President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the position of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe regarding the scandalous decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine will be taken into account when preparing the judicial reform.

“I thank the Venice Commission and Gianni Buquicchio for the decision on the CCU. The two approved documents provide important guidelines on how to avoid inevitable damage to anti-corruption reform and reform the Constitutional Court so that the current situation does not repeat itself. The positions of the Commission will be taken into account when preparing judicial reform in Ukraine, ”Zelensky wrote on Twitter.

On the eve of the Venice Commission published a draft conclusion on the situation in Ukraine, which has been developed in connection with the abolition of the CCU of liability for inaccurate declaration. The document states that punishment in the form of imprisonment for the deliberate failure to submit a statement and the deliberate submission of false information from a certain limit must be preserved.

The Venice Commission also expressed confidence that the verification of the judges’ statements does not contradict international standards.

The Constitutional Court annulled art. 366-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on criminal responsibility for entering inaccurate data in the declaration, which endangers the visa-free regime with the EU, international financial assistance and Ukraine’s European integration direction.

The scandalous decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine was made on the proposal of 47 deputies of the Opposition Platform Party – For Life and the Deputy Group for the Future.

The NAPK said the judges made the decision in their own interest. According to the anti-corruption agency, two members of the KSU entered inaccurate data in their statements, and now they are probably trying to evade responsibility.

Following the scandalous KSU decision, several high-profile cases were closed, including that of Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov, Attorney General Irina Venediktova, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, former Ukroboronprom Director Pavel Bukin and Judge of the Constitutional Court Vladimir Moysik.
