Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the actual end of the reform of the Attorney General’s Office.
As he said in an interview with The New York Times, posted on the head of state’s website, many formatting changes were made to the GPU, in particular, prosecutors approved a competitive selection.
“We are also approaching a very important strategic stage: we found a balance between law enforcement agencies and a reform of the Security Service of Ukraine will be launched, which will not deal with the economy,” Zelensky said.
In addition, according to him, the Supreme Anticorruption Court has been in operation for more than a year and there are already sentences.
“And the next big stage is the global judicial reform in Ukraine, which we will begin to implement from next year, given that many laws have already been drafted, the stages of implementation of these reforms have been prepared,” added the president.
As OBOZREVATEL wrote, Zelensky previously said that he could fire Attorney General Irina Venediktova if she does not show a certain result before the end of the year. He noted that the previous prosecutor was dismissed due to lack of imprisonment, so he expects better results from Venediktova.
In response, the Attorney General praised the work of her department, noting that the courts must provide landings.
