Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said he could not express everything that was said during a meeting with representatives of the British foreign intelligence service, but one of the issues was misinformation and response.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today, during his visit to the Odessa region, said that during a meeting with representatives of the British foreign intelligence service, the problem of misinformation and fake news was discussed. This was reported by the press service of the President of Ukraine.
“We had a meeting in the MI6 office. Unfortunately, I cannot express all the information. I mean, these are matters of state. I read what they write about the composition of this meeting. First, there was a different composition,” said the president . …
He stressed that the issue, which “according to some Ukrainian media” was allegedly raised at this meeting, was in fact not considered at all.
“Of all the volume of questions from our two-hour long meeting, most were information about helping and protecting our sovereignty and territorial integrity. I cannot release the details,” Zelensky said.
One of the issues, he said, was countering misinformation and fake news.
“They just said that we have a big problem with the fact that the media is financed not only by the Ukrainians. That in Ukraine, unfortunately, many of the television channels that we know of are financed by various groups,” the president said.
The issues of protection of freedom and protection of information are very important for the security of the state, therefore, the creation of independent media is relevant, Zelensky said.
“It seems to me that the main essence of this profession is to verify the information and publish it freely. And that is correct. As for the independent media, I am sure that we have many independent journalists. And we will always support their freedom,” the president summarized.
He was in London from October 7-8.
Zelensky’s meeting with the new head of the British foreign intelligence service MI6 on October 12 was reported by ZN.UA. According to the newspaper, both parties were not going to announce this meeting. The parties reportedly discussed three issues: attacks by the Ukrainian authorities on anti-corruption agencies, pressure on the Attorney General’s Office and the courts; the situation in the east and the actions of Russia; Zelensky’s entourage, not only official, but also informal.
Geo Leros, a people’s deputy, who does not belong to any faction, expelled from the parliamentary faction Servant of the People, said that the head of the British intelligence MI6, Richard Moore, warned Zelensky that the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak , was leaking classified information from the Russian Federation.
