The deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation of “United Russia” Konstantin Zatulin said that the Russian side “will veto the reasoning” of the first president of Ukraine, head of the Ukrainian delegation to the trilateral contact group Leonid Kravchuk.
Ukraine is preparing a military provocation to force the Donbass to surrender. This “RIA Novosti” said the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation of “United Russia” Konstantin Zatulin.
Thus, he reacted to the statement of the first president, president of the Ukrainian delegation to the trilateral contact group Leonid Kravchuk, who said on the air of the television channel Ukraine 24 that if Russia continues to block the negotiations and the situation reaches an impasse, then Ukraine will try to get out of it with radical measures. Kravchuk noted that the Ukrainian delegation is ready to take concrete action on the basis of existing agreements. However, he clarified that there is no progress behind them.
According to Zatulin, the Ukrainian government hopes to receive support on the escalation issue from the new US administration and the participants in the Normandy format: France and Germany, “especially Germany.” The matter concerns the revision of the Minsk agreements, the deputy specified.
The deputy of the State Duma stressed that what is happening must be considered in a comprehensive manner with “the attack on the Russian language in Ukraine, the attacks on the opposition, the persecution of dissidents, the closure of television channels.”
Zatulin believes that this is “a diplomatic preparation for a military provocation”, they want to “awaken support for Ukraine and achieve their goal by forcing Donetsk, Lugansk and Russia to surrender.”
According to him, this Ukraine plan has many shortcomings and the Russian side will “veto this reasoning” from Kravchuk.
In 2014, immediately after the annexation of Crimea, Russia launched an armed aggression in eastern Ukraine. The fighting is between the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the one hand, and the Russian army and the Russian-backed militants who control parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on the other. Officially, the Russian Federation does not recognize its invasion of Ukraine, despite the facts and evidence presented by Ukraine.
On July 22, 2020, the Trilateral Contact Group agreed to a full and complete ceasefire in Donbas starting at midnight on July 27. The Ukrainian side regularly reports cases of violations of the ceasefire by militants.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, on February 11, during a visit to the Donetsk region, said that the escalating situation in Donbass associated with Russia’s attempts to pressure Ukraine in the talks in the trilateral contact group on the resolution of the conflict.
