Poland has realized both points. Ukraine failed again when playing the first number
The Poles initially showed that they are willing to act without the ball. Statistics portals say that the hosts carried out a total of 71 attacks per game, while the Ukrainians went on the offensive 104 times. 43:57 is already the percentage of possession of the ball. But the “shots” had two really sharp points. The first one created for the opponent Lunin with his inconsiderate exit from the gate. The second is the confusion in the goalkeeper’s room, when no one could throw the ball into the center of the field or beyond the sideline.
Poland scored goals from both of these opportunities, which is commendable. But it’s fair to say that tonight’s “white and red” blew it all away.
Ukraine today owns the space, but not the game situation. The very tight and compact game of the opponent deprived our team of the opportunity to aggravate.
It is extremely rare that Ukrainians manage to reach the enemy gate through a pass. In the first half, Yarmolenko and Yaremchuk made various combinations of great touches, and after the break, a vertical attack from the bottom with the participation of Krivtsov, Zinchenko, Marlos, Konoplya and Tsygankov led to a fresh shot from the latter under the crossbar. : the goalkeeper faced.

Zinchenko is the best player of the match
There were some attempts to act on a pass in the center, until Alejandro changed. But after he left, the game in the middle of the field fell apart for the Ukrainians. Overall, it is unclear what Shevchenko wanted to see in the triangle with three holding midfielders at the end of the match. And it is so well known that, for example, Sidorchuk on vacation can give a precise pass forward. In a situation where the team had stable possession of the ball, there was not a single “creative”.
More precisely, there were two of them, and both acted from the flanks: Tsygankov and Marlos were regularly reduced in the center, opening space for the laterals to run. Wingers had to take over the game and drag the ball into someone else’s penalty area, where there were often losses.
To advance, the defenders at the end of the fight began to throw the ball with diagonals on the flanks to Konoplya / Cooper or Mikhailichenko. None of these transmissions took place.
The only argument when it comes to playing in three pivots is the opportunity to give a break to our players who are in charge of the constructive game: Zinchenko and Malinovsky in the first place. His ability to hold the ball will be very useful in the next two official matches.
Hemp deserves to play with Germany and Switzerland
For the right back of “Desna” this is not a debut in the national team. In September, he took the field against France and played, to put it mildly, a very mediocre game. But today the situation was different.
Yefim acted fairly reliably and did not give up. He joined the attacks, interacted well with partners (mainly Yarmolenko), assessed the situation maturely and, between two options, often adhered to the need to keep the ball and not aggravate.
However, it was almost clear that in the final games of the Nations League, Hemp will play in this position; now there are simply no other right-backs in the national team camp. The experiment with Bondar remained an experiment today: unfortunately, he couldn’t show anything special in half an hour. However, in those thirty minutes that Valery received, the structure of the national team’s game had already begun to crumble. And one, as you know, is not a warrior in the field. And even a side.

You shouldn’t hang all the lunin dogs
Andrey made a mistake in the first goal; as you know, the mistakes of the goalkeepers are immediately apparent. And even with the second effective hit, Lunin acted somewhat unconvincingly on tape, but the entire defense frankly got loose there.
On the whole, however, our goalkeeper had a pretty lively game: he took several dangerous shots, saw the field well and made long passes, and also did not make mistakes when kicking.
One of the main questions that remained after the meeting in Poland, who should be the first number of our team? Pyatov, Buschan, Lunin – they all had problems, even in the national team, even during the current season. Leave Pyatov as the main goalkeeper before the Euro? Or after the euro too?
This is one of the most difficult questions for the coaching staff of the national team to answer. It is clear that I want to look ahead and play goalkeeper with the prospect of the next big tournament. But who?
What is the perspective of this team?
This is not a depressing issue that has matured after the defeat of Poland. In recent days, the problem has often arisen that in the current core of the national team there are very few players with an iron place in the main team of their clubs: Malinovsky, Stepanenko, Pyatov, Zinchenko, Yarmolenko, Krivtsov , Matvienko; in October-November they played little or, like Krivtsov, did not play at all. It is clear that not all have lost their place in the beginning of their teams in terms of playing characteristics, but that does not facilitate the national team.
As a result, the country’s main team may struggle with the tone of the game. How, in this case, to fight on an equal footing with Germany and Switzerland, where the players perform stably, for example, in the Bundesliga?
The main advantage is that the rivals of the TOP championships have already gotten tired of football in the two months of the new season, when they have to play two games a week (championships plus European cups). Our players should look fresher. If this really is an advantage, we will see it at the end of the Nations League.

Plans of the Ukrainian national team
Andriy Shevchenko’s positions remain in Poland today and will fly to Germany tomorrow. On Saturday there will be a League of Nations game against the Germans. And already next Tuesday, another game away from home, against Switzerland. They are the current Nations League draw for “blue-yellow” and it will end. At these meetings it will be clear whether we will hold our place in the strongest division or not.
