Kolos has marvelously approached the historic start in the Europa League: with the opening of a cozy stadium at home, with the defeat of the first opponent in it, with the signing of a Ukrainian soccer star and a change in the style of clothing for commercial delegations. In such cases, they say that development is progressing by leaps and bounds, but the outcome on the football field is also important. Aris was the favorite of this match and started as the favorite. And the Kolos players were nervous. Although in vain, this rival is no stronger than the ordinary representatives of the UPL, at whose hands and feet the Kovalevites took away the right to play in the international arena.
“Aris” held the ball and attacked, but somehow without ideology. The Greeks easily passed the center of the field and entered the penalty area of Volynets, but in the final phase they acted in a chaotic way. No one responded to Fetfatzidis’s pass after his solo pass, Gama’s shot did not surprise Volynets and Matilia’s free kick licked the crossbar. This was almost the only significant moment of the hosts in 45 minutes, from the standard. The Kolos created more danger. The important thing: he created it as a result of team actions.
Bogdanov’s long-range inaccurate punch is pulled out of the brackets. But after a pass from Novak Zozulya he had to score at the far post – Alexey missed the ball. The opportunity was perfect. Like Smirny, who hit after the activity with the second wave (at first the danger came from Antyukh), the ball hit the goalkeeper. It’s a shame Kolos didn’t use at least one of his abilities.
But at the beginning of the second half, the Ukrainians corrected their previous mistakes with the implementation. Very fast. In the first attack after the resumption of the fight, “Kolos” earned the right to a free kick on the left flank, Bogdanov made a high pass over the head, and Evgeny Novak, with a light touch of the ball, closed at the far post.
“Aris” began. This team reacted to the conceded goal not with fear, not with shame, but with sporting aggression. Under pressure, “Kolos” closed in his own penalty area and made a mistake. From the free zone on the right flank, a pass to the goalkeeper followed, from one of the players the ball bounced towards Bruno Gama on the penalty area line, freed himself from the tutelage of two rivals and shot into the upper corner – 1: one.
“Kolos” not after this goal was confused, but even before. However, this is the peculiarity of Ruslan Kostyshin’s team – he knows how to endure and overcome difficulties. It was a little while before the Kovalevites took the lead for the second time. And what’s important – “Aris” didn’t have a chance for the second goal during this segment. The hero of the episode in the 62nd minute was Denis Antyukh, who successfully played the finishing move. Although his teammates should also be taken into account, it was an attack in which many players participated. In particular, Lysenko started it all, Antyukh supported and connected Morozko, introduced Yemets, after whose coup he had the opportunity to effectively finish.
But then the heat started. “Aris” still attacked a lot, and after the second he missed, and even more. Bruno Gama did not get tired of shooting at the Volynets frame from a medium distance, in one of the episodes in a simple situation the Ukrainian goalkeeper made a mistake, but the defender loaded the ball from the empty goal line (I think Gavrish). Finally, Mancini’s super moment at the end of the match: it was a real chance for the Greeks to escape defeat, but the Argentine failed. Fortunately for Ruslan Kostyshin.
It would be a shame to lose this success, because even with the score 2: 1 “Kolos” could close the game three times. The debutant Seleznev had two moments, but in one of the episodes he failed the frame, in the other he did not overcome the goalkeeper. And Antyukh almost went from being a hero to an anti-hero: in a primitive blow he ruined the one-on-one outing organized by Bogdanov. Denis has speed and football wit, but the implementation needs to be improved.
Won “Kolos”. He won, perhaps spending even more effort than necessary. More precisely, not effort, but nerves. “Aris” did not surprise with anything, and it was possible to punish this opponent more severely. But it is so good. This is a beautiful continuation of a beautiful story that began with a sensational victory in the UPL “European” playoffs. Also – “Rijeka”. And why not try to defeat her too ?!
