Economic issues have become one of the obstacles in solving the Transnistrian conflict, said former prime minister, presidential candidate Maia Sandu in an interview with the founder of the publication “GORDON”, Dmitry Gordon.

Ukraine could use Moldova’s experience in resolving the Transnistria conflict to resolve the conflict in the Donbass. This opinion was expressed in an interview with the founder of the publication “GORDON”, Dmitry Gordon, by the former prime minister, presidential candidate of Moldova Maia Sandu.

“You can learn from our experience. Because for so many years we have done so many things, and we see that we are not even one step closer to a political solution. Although, again, Transnistria became part of the negotiating format. Although there were so many documents … Not all of them are declassified. There are still documents that we need to read and see. We are very open, again, about trade and business, but unfortunately, no solution has been found, “he said.

Sandu advised the Ukrainian authorities “to take special care so that corruption does not become the main element of this conflict.”

That is, our economic interests, unfortunately, have become one of the obstacles [для урегулирования]… I am not saying that this is the only obstacle, but it is a major obstacle to finding a solution ”, concluded the Moldovan politician.

Transnistria declared its sovereignty in 1990, in connection with which an armed conflict broke out between Moldova and the self-proclaimed republic. In the summer of 1992 the hostilities ended. The conflict has not yet been resolved politically.
