The head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak said that there is enough water for the people living on the territory of occupied Crimea and their needs.

Reports Interfax-Ukraine.

Responding to the question whether there will be a “Crimean war over water”, Ermak said:

«You know, they’ve been scaring us with war since 2014. No, it won’t. I think this is the kind of manipulation that exists in society. And let’s say frankly that today there is enough water for the people living in Crimea, ”he said.

Recall that in August, due to drought and subsidence of water bodies in Simferopol and 39 nearby settlements, they began to gradually limit the water supply.

In 2014, about 85% of Crimea’s water supply needs were provided by the North Crimean Canal, which was supplied with water from the mainland of Ukraine, but after the occupation of the peninsula by Russian troops, the channel was blocked.

In 2019, Crimea entered another dry period, which occurs roughly once every seven years. Due to the shallow water bodies, the occupation authorities raised the issue of restoring the water supply to Crimea by the Ukrainian government. They appeal to a humanitarian catastrophe, but in reality, the water shortage is suffered mainly by the Russian troops and military bases, and not by the population of the peninsula.
