Ukraine’s second racket Diana Yastremskaya (# 29 WTA) ended their fight in the Premier 5 Series in Rome.

In the third round match, the Ukrainian lost two sets to Romanian first seed Simone Halep (No. 2 WTA).

Rome. Third circle
Dayana Yastremskaya (Ukraine) – Simona Halep (Romania) – 5: 7, 4: 6

Dayana started very well, showing tennis at a higher level than in previous matches of the tournament. And Khalep, in her corporate style, started off on a swing, studying more of an unfamiliar rival. This was the reason why the Ukrainian took a slightly unexpected lead with a score of 3: 0, but very quickly everything fell into place: Simona added a bit of speed and Dayana stopped making the right decisions. This completely messed up her game plan and she was able to take a point in the next three games.

After that, the situation on the court calmed down a bit, Dayana created the appearance of a fight against a stellar opponent, but at important points she made a mistake herself or the Romanian showed a class difference. The outcome in the first set came after the score 5: 5, Simona won a triple concealed set point, without missing her chance.

The second set could have ended much faster. This time, Khalep was already leading 3: 0, with two breaks in reserve, but Dayana managed to play one immediately. Curiously, but until the end of the match the girls managed to defend all their feeds. Dayana no longer had good opportunities to change the course of the fight, she could only delay the inevitable. Considering that Halep was far from playing at his full potential today, at times he managed to cope with her. But the bigger picture did not change from this, because Dayana herself did not show superior play.

But it’s worth noting that at the Rome tournament, Dayana played three matches and added a little bit with each game. There are few advances after the American series, the main thing is not to stop. At the moment she is not ready for sensational victories, but don’t forget that she is only 20 years old, and in women’s tennis everything can change very quickly.

In the next round, Khalep will play Elena Rybakina (No. 18 WTA) or Yulia Putintseva (No. 30 WTA).

Previously, Yastremskaya lost to Khalep in doubles.
