Before the North American Youth Ice Hockey World Championship final, Canada was the favorite, but the statistics were on the side of the United States.
The Americans have won the last three finals against a historic rival, and the Canadians have never won gold within their walls if the opponent was the United States in the deciding match.
And the statistics worked.
Canada, which did not concede a single goal in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, were 0-2 behind after two periods. In the final 20 minutes, the hosts dominated, but couldn’t face goalkeeper Spencer Knight (33 saves), despite all the pressure.
The United States won the title for the first time since 2017.
Finland defeated Russia in the bronze medal match.
