Operator of the Polish gas transmission system GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. received the necessary permits from Sweden to install the Baltic Pipeline in the Baltic Sea.
This was reported by the press service of the gas operator Gaz-System.
The pipeline will allow natural gas to be transported from Norway to Poland, without going through Russia. Warsaw hopes that, thanks to the pipeline, it will be possible to reduce its dependence on supply from the Russian energy company Gazprom.
Sweden was the last to approve the construction of the Baltic Pipe in its economic zone. The length of the pipe section that passes through this area is 85 kilometers.
“This decision has shown that the Swedish authorities recognize the importance of the project not only for Poland and Denmark, but also for the entire European Union, to strengthen cooperation between EU member states and, perhaps, first of all, to become independent of Russia’s natural gas supplies, ”said Gaz System chief Tomasz Stempen.
Baltic Pipe intends to open in 2022. With your help, gas will be supplied from the North Sea to Poland and the Baltic countries. Furthermore, the pipeline will be able to transport gas from Poland to Denmark and Sweden.
