From December 25 (Friday) to January 10 (Sunday) there will be winter holidays in Ukrainian schools.
Children will have a lot of time for leisure: two and a half weeks. But then students will not return to classrooms, but will most likely switch to distance learning. The reason is the nationwide quarantine, which was introduced until January 24.
“Strana” tells how schoolchildren will rest and study in December 2020 and January 2021.
Winter holidays in Ukrainian schools 2020-2021 and distance education
Winter holidays in Ukraine for the 2020-2021 season will last up to 17 days: seven in December and ten in January. They are highlighted in blue on our calendars.
The schoolchildren will begin to rest from Friday, December 25. This day will also be a day off for parents, on the occasion of Catholic Christmas.
In January, the holidays will continue until January 10, with the capture of two public holidays: New Years and Orthodox Christmas.
Such vacations were recommended in advance by the authorities and the educational institutions took them as a basis. However, due to the total quarantine, which was announced in Ukraine in January, the concept may change.
This month, the Cabinet of Ministers introduced a blockade: total quarantine in Ukraine from January 8 to 24, inclusive. Non-essential stores will be closed and shopping and entertainment centers, cafes and restaurants will continue to operate for take out only. Under the castle there will be cinemas, sports clubs, children’s rooms.
In addition to all this, the government forced to cancel classes everywhere, only kindergartens will work. Most likely, distance education will be introduced in the country during this period. On our calendar below, the designations in green appeared – the period in which schoolchildren will already study, but at home.
According to the logic of the authorities, children must go to school on January 25 (Monday). The same applies to students in schools, technical colleges and universities.
Can the dates of the winter holidays in Ukraine change?
Students will stay home for exactly one month. This period of stay out of school can be called long. It is noteworthy that the holidays are not “in sync” with the closing of January, which would be convenient: children and parents would be home at the same time. In this regard, the question arises, is it not logical to change the winter vacation period?
The winter break period, which we posted above, is considered basic. It was these dates that the Ministry of Education sent to educational institutions as recommended. They also have the right to set their own vacations. The main thing is to follow the 30 day rule. This should be the total duration of school breaks for the entire academic year, excluding summer holidays.
Today it is known that mainly in Kiev schools there will be a basic format:
- from December 25 to January 10 – winter holidays,
- from January 11 to 24 – distance learning.
But in the Lviv region, the rest of the students have changed. This is not illegal, the main thing is that there should be no more vacations than necessary. There, due to the upcoming blockade, they are considering the option of starting the holidays ten days later than in the whole country, starting on January 4, 2021.
It is not excluded that some regions also follow this path. In this regard, parents are encouraged to clarify the exact schedule in their schools.
It’s too early to talk about spring and summer break, but so far the dates look like this:
- from March 22 to 28 inclusive,
- from June 1 to August 31 inclusive.
