Will Russian COVID-19 Vaccine Be Used in Ukraine: Stepanov’s Response?

[ad_1]

Russia has already started vaccination against the coronavirus with Sputnik-V. Despite this, it has not yet passed the final stage of clinical trials. Stepanov said whether Ukraine needs such a drug.

The head of the Ministry of Health, Maxim Stepanov, believes that only vaccines that have passed all stages of clinical trials and are registered “as they should be” should be used in Ukraine. On the air of Savik Shuster’s Freedom of Expression program, the minister commented on the possibility of using the Russian vaccine in Ukraine, Channel 24 reports.

On the subject we will look, – Stepanov said if he will be vaccinated against the coronavirus

Stepanov believes that it is too early to talk about buying a Russian vaccine against the coronavirus. After all, it has not yet passed the final stage of clinical trials. In parallel, the American company Pfizer has already carried out all the necessary research stages, announced the results of the tests and even registered the vaccine. That is, in this case, the world is sure that the drug is ready.

The devil only knows what is happening there (in Russia – ed.). They started the vaccination without completing the 3rd stage of the clinical trials … I think from a safety point of view, from a everything point of view – finish the 3rd stage, show the results and then it will be possible to say: “Yes , there is a vaccine “- without reference to country,
Stepanov said.

Ukraine’s People’s Deputy Mykhailo Radutskiy supported Stepanov’s words. He added that on December 4, the Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of a bill that clearly defines the conditions for the registration of coronavirus vaccines in Ukraine.

In Ukraine, vaccination registration is allowed by a reduced procedure of up to 5 days. But only those vaccines that are prequalified by the WHO and are approved for use in countries with strict regulatory policies. Unfortunately or fortunately, Russia has nothing to do with those countries,
Radutsky clarified.

He added that the discussion of the Russian COVID-19 vaccine registration in Ukraine will take place only if it passes the WHO prequalification. And if this happens, then the probable registration of this drug will be carried out not according to an abbreviated procedure, but according to the usual one.

Vaccines whose countries can be registered in Ukraine under the abbreviated procedure

  • UNITED STATES,
  • Britain,
  • IT IS,
  • Swiss Confederation
  • China, because it is a leader in speed of vaccine production,
  • Israel.

All other countries will be subject to regular registration.
