WHO urges UK to suspend coronavirus vaccines

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on the United Kingdom to suspend COVID-19 vaccination, limiting itself to only the most vulnerable to ensure a fair deployment of the vaccine campaign globally.

According to The Guardian, the WHO believes this will help poorer countries get the vaccine.

WHO Representative Margaret Harris addressed the UK. She said: “You can wait,” because this approach “will be correct not only from a moral point of view, but also from an economic point of view.”

“We believe that countries that vaccinate healthcare workers and people most at risk of contracting the coronavirus should guarantee access to the drug for others,” the organization said.

“The phrase ‘one in the field is not a warrior’ is applicable in this case. We live on the same planet, we are strongly connected to each other,” Harris added.

Note that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the entire adult population of the country will be able to receive the first coronavirus vaccine by the fall of this year. They want to vaccinate the most vulnerable before February 15.

Vaccination of the UK population started on December 8. The country is one of the world leaders in the pace of vaccination campaigns.

For the UK, January 2021 was the deadliest month of the pandemic, with about 1,000 deaths a day.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the UK began testing a new drug that should help prevent the development of severe COVID-19. On January 12, the first patient at Halla Hospital received such treatment.
