Several health ministries and state regulators for the purchase of coronavirus vaccines received suspicious offers for the supply of injectable drugs. This was announced in a briefing on Friday, March 26, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus.
“WHO is concerned about the potential for criminal gangs to exploit the huge pent-up world demand for COVID-19 vaccines,” the director-general said.
At the same time, Gebreyesus said that counterfeit products such as COVID-19 vaccines are being sold on the internet, particularly on the Shadow Network, and that the organization is aware of cases of corruption and reuse of empty vaccine vials.
In this regard, he urged governments to properly dispose of used vaccine vials.
“We call for the safe use or disposal of used empty COVID-19 vaccine vials to prevent reuse by criminal groups. We also urge all people not to buy vaccines outside of government vaccination programs,” said the head of the WHO.
