WHO opposes coronavirus vaccination requirement for travel
It is not yet clear to what extent vaccination reduces transmission of the coronavirus, the organization said.
The WHO pandemic coronavirus emergency committee has spoken out against the mandatory vaccination requirement for international travel. This is stated in the recommendations published on Friday, January 15.
“Currently, the requirement for proof of vaccination or immunity for international travel should not be introduced as a condition of entry [в страну]as it is not yet clear to what extent vaccination reduces transmission [инфекции]”, – decided the committee after the meeting.
The committee also drew attention to the “limited availability of a vaccine” for the coronavirus at this time in the world.
At the same time, the lack of a need to demonstrate vaccination does not mean that travelers should not follow other rules when traveling internationally, aimed at reducing the risk of infection.
Earlier, the WHO said that the second year of the pandemic will be heavier than the first. The incidence of the coronavirus in the world “has once again reached a peak,” they say in the organization and make disappointing forecasts.
It was also reported that herd immunity against COVID will not be formed in the world in 2021. Measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus should be followed at least until the end of the year, according to the organization.
