The blockade in Ukraine will not be introduced as of November 30, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said.

It was announced on the air by Inter on Friday, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

He explained that the government will not introduce unexpected stricter quarantine restrictions. Therefore, the population will be notified one week in advance.

“Next week nobody will present it definitively. We are considering different options for the development of the events, but in any case, we will make an appropriate message within seven to ten days with a clear list of restrictions if we need to introduce strict quarantine measures, “he said.

Stepanov also stressed that in Ukraine the situation with the occupation of beds in hospitals is less than 50%. The head of the Ministry of Health explained that although the situation with the coronavirus in the country is difficult, it is not critical.

We will remember, Stepanov did not rule out that public transport will continue to operate in the event of a return to a harsh blockade in Ukraine.

Does Ukraine expect a total blockade?

Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said the government is considering a plan to introduce a strict lockdown on Ukraine, but this is only an alternative in case the weekend quarantine doesn’t work out.

According to him, the government is preparing for all possible scenarios, including the possible introduction of a blockade for the winter holidays: New Years and Christmas.

Oleg Ustenko, adviser to the president on economic affairs, confirmed that in the event of a sharp increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in Ukraine, the authorities could resort to introducing a total lockdown.

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov believes that the blockade in Ukraine should be introduced for three or four weeks “as soon as possible”.

According to media reports, the government is considering two dates to introduce a blockade: December 25 to January 17 and December 7 to 20. However, there is no final decision as of November 27.
