If the presidents of Ukraine and Russia do not enter into a dialogue, it will be impossible to restore Ukraine and return all territories. This opinion was expressed by the head of the Ukrainian state Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Politico Europe said that the war in Donbass cannot be stopped without a dialogue with the Russian Federation. The transcript of the interview was posted on the website of the President of Ukraine.

“Sometimes mothers stand in front of you, for example dead guys asking you a direct question:” When will you end the war? “There are some mothers who say, ‘You must go to war in Donbass, did our boys just die? “They are different formulations of the same pain that Ukrainian mothers have who, unfortunately, lost their children in this war. And at this moment you find the answer. I am not lying to them, but I must find the answer. I do not have an honest answer, that, for example, on the 31st of 21st I will definitely end the war, and we will return our territories. But they are waiting for an answer, they do not want to hear from the president who is not sure, who does not know, who doubts, “said Zelensky.

Commenting on a journalist’s statement about what Ukrainians call the president a traitor, who is in dialogue with the Russian side, Zelensky accused some politicians of trying to disrupt the negotiation process.

“I would put the points here very correctly: in what sense does the President of Ukraine not want to speak to the President of Russia, and who exactly is spreading information in the media that Ukraine should not speak to the Russian Federation? I am sure that We will never stop the war if we do not talk to Russia. A separate case is the support of our Western partners. But if we do not talk to the President [РФ Владимиром] Putin, we will not be able to fully restore Ukraine and return all our territories, “the president said.

According to him, the opportunities for dialogue try to disrupt the media, which belong either to large financial or political structures that were in power and “held high positions.”

“Although we never give up and believe that, in any case, on the issue of ending the war, we will move forward and talk with partners and with Russia to return people and territories,” Zelensky added.

In 2014, immediately after the annexation of Crimea, Russia launched an armed aggression in eastern Ukraine. The fighting is between the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the one hand, and the Russian army and the Russian-backed militants who control parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on the other. The Russian Federation does not officially recognize its invasion of Ukraine, despite the facts and evidence presented by Ukraine.

In December 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported that the war in Donbass claimed 14 thousand lives1.5 million people were forced to change their place of residence.
