We fell into the trap of the “wolves”. Shakhtar fails the game against Roma in Rome

The match between Shakhtar and Roma was awaited with great interest in both Ukraine and Italy. The main intrigue, of course, was the confrontation between Paulo Fonseca’s recent pupils and his current team. After all, a little over a year and a half has passed since the Portuguese specialist moved to Roma, and another Portugal coach, Luis Castro, took his place at Shakhtar.

It was also interesting to see how former Donetsk club footballer Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who entered the home team’s starting lineup, will play against the miners. But one of the best players of Bosnian “Roma” Edin Dzeko remained in reserve. As for the guests, everything was expected here. Except that Vitao appeared in the center of defense again, and Sergey Krivtsov started the game on the bench.

In the opening period, the rivals exchanged good chances. Initially, in the 5th minute, Tyson swerved to the center from the left, passed Moraes and shot behind closed doors, but the Romans goalkeeper López controlled everything and took the ball in his hands. And a minute after the corner kick, Cristante hit his head in the near bottom corner and here Trubin showed his skills, literally hitting the ball from the goal line.

In addition, until half the time, the match was developed with a small playing advantage of the Italians, however, neither one nor the other came to blows. The unexpected goal was a goal against Shakhtar in the 23rd minute. It all started with a shot in the center of the field. The ball was handed to Pedro, and he, with an excellent pass, brought Pellegrini into shock position. The captain of Roma did everything with mastery. He ran into the miners’ penalty area at high speed and deftly shot Trubin, who ran down the middle, towards the goal net.

The guests tried to recover in the 27th minute, when Dodo on the right made a direct pass to the center of the area for Moraes. But he was momentarily ahead of Lopez. And three minutes later, Trubin was very wrong. Without success, he threw the ball directly at Mkhitaryan and was hitting the empty goal. Fortunately for the miners, the ball flew just over the crossbar. By the way, immediately after that, the Armenian footballer felt bad and asked for a replacement.

Nothing else that deserved attention happened before the break and the teams went to break.

At the start of the second half, in the 48th minute, Tete was in Shakhtar’s attacking position. He struck from about the penalty area line to the far corner, but Lopez managed to transfer the ball to the corner. Three minutes later, Tete himself successfully pushed his way down the right flank, outscored several defenders and fired on goal. The ball touched Mancini’s leg and flew back to the corner.

In the 63rd minute, Roma almost increased the score. El Shaarawi, who had just entered as a substitute, found the ball just in front of Trubin after a pass from the right wing. However, the home team forward failed to break through and the ball simply rolled into the hands of the miners’ goalkeeper.

Shakhtar had a good chance to score a goal in the 67th minute. It was Ismaily who ran down the left wing and from the same end line managed to make a pass into the goalkeeper’s area. Moraes struck twice at point blank range, but both times he missed the ball correctly.

And then, in the 73rd minute, the guests conceded the second goal in their own goal. El Shaaravi hit the ball almost in the center of the field, ran with it into the rival penalty area, easily passed Vitao and also threw the ball gracefully over Trubin. Shaaravi could have scored again soon, but the miners’ goalkeeper turned the ball for a corner.

Unfortunately, Shakhtar’s third goal was postponed only a few seconds. In the 77th minute, after serving from the corner of the field, Mancini won the horse fight against Ismaily and sent the ball into the goal with his head. It already seemed like a defeat.

Hoping to score at least one goal in this game, Luis Castro made all five substitutions. But it was all in vain. Roma won 3-0 and made a good start for the second leg.
