“We discussed football matters with Gelzin until morning.”

52-year-old Ukrainian specialist Yuri Kalitvintsev commented on his appointment as head coach of Olimpik Donetsk.

“Everything happened very quickly, literally tonight … There was a call from the president of the club (Vladislav Gelzin – editor’s note). He asked me if I had any desire to lead the team. The first thing I answered was: “You have a coach!” But the president said we said goodbye peacefully and well to the coach, so the team is now without a mentor. Then I agreed to meet, and practically until morning we sat and discussed a lot of football matters. Only in the morning, together with the president, did we come to the conclusion that we would cooperate.

What are my ambitions at Olympic? I am not interested in half the classification, much less the fight for survival. I’ll say this: I have no ambitions, but ambition, sporting ambition! But we will not make great strides, everything must be progressive! ”- said Kalitvintsev.

Throughout his coaching career, Kalitvintsev led Zakarpattia, Volga (Nizhny Novgorod), Dynamo Moscow, the Ukrainian U-19 team and the Ukrainian team (with the substitute prefix).
