“We did everything possible for the match with Switzerland to take place”

Ukraine National Team Coach Andrey Shevchenko shared his thoughts on the cancellation of the League of Nations match Switzerland – Ukraine.

– First of all, it’s very unpleasant. We were ready to play, we had a sufficient number of players with negative tests to be able to carry out the match. The decision was made by the Lucerne authorities. Now we will await the decision of UEFA. There is no fault of ours here. We all understood the situation we find ourselves in. The last thing he could imagine was that the match might be canceled.

– In Spain, the Ukrainian team was retained, luggage was detained. This is the situation in Switzerland now. Do you have the feeling that they are afraid of us?

– I would like everything to be completely different, if there is any respect. There were a few moments. It was wrong to receive guests, a team like that.

I want to thank the boys for the perseverance they have shown, for the desire they have shown. By skill, the team played good football. We won 6 points playing with the best teams in the world. We had great matches, I was very satisfied with this tournament and with the boys. Many newcomers played at a decent level. I wish you all a speedy recovery. I hope that the players will overcome their illnesses and return to their home clubs faster. They will play and delight the fans.

– How do you see the way out of this situation, knowing what a busy schedule is?

– I repeat it to you once more: there is an organism that will take care of this. We did everything possible to make this match happen. We had enough players with negative tests to play this match, Shevchenko said.
