Donetsk Shakhtar presented his , and club president Rinat Akhmetov summed up the results of the last season.
“The 2019/20 season has become for each of us a season of new challenges and trials, but for Shakhtar it has also become a year of great discoveries, a year of beautiful victories. Together with Shakhtar, we experience many vivid emotions, together we wrote the history of the club. ” and all Ukrainian football.
Shakhtar became the champion of Ukraine for the fourth consecutive season and for the 13th time in its history. The team not only won the title, but did so with great confidence: 5 rounds before the end of the championship and with a record 23-point lead from the rivals. We had a great European season! A decent performance in the Champions League group and the Europa League semi-finals is a result of which we can and should be proud. And most importantly, throughout the season the team showed a really beautiful game, delighted its fans with offensive and productive football.
A successful season would not have been possible without the quality work of head coach Luis Castro and his staff. We believed in this specialist, in his experience and ideas, and he made the Shakhtar even stronger. It is very important that Luis Castro do everything possible for the progress and growth of young players, giving everyone a chance. And look how many talented footballers have been revealed this season! I’m sure everyone has a great future!
I am also very happy that Darijo Srna is returning to us in a new role in the 2019/20 season. I am sure that his experience and love for his native club will help Shakhtar reach new heights more than once.
In 2020, the world is facing the coronavirus epidemic. This misfortune has not escaped football either. It was especially difficult for us during the quarantine, but we succeeded, thanks to the management and coaching staff, thanks to our players and, of course, thanks to all the club employees. Every effort has been made to ensure a safe and continuous training process even during quarantine.
I believe that we will all return to a normal and safe life, and football will help us in this. There is a new season ahead, which we look to with great hopes and expectations. And our philosophy remains unchanged: we are strong, we are ambitious, we want to win and keep trophies in our hands, “said Akhmetov.
