Coronavirus COVID-19, a hiatus of almost two weeks for international matches, injuries to important players and a streak of failed performances: Luis Castro and his Shakhtar Donetsk had many questions before the start of the UEFA Champions League group stage with their away game against Real Madrid. The only thing that could bother Kashtra in such a situation was the muscle damage to Viktor Kovalenko, which was received during the second goal. Losing a footballer in shape before responsible play was too expensive a price to pay for situational success in the national arena. Furthermore, the rivals’ game never improved. PFC Lviv managed to create only one serious opportunity for the scored goal, and Trubin helped them do so with a failed attempt to intercept a corner from the right wing. Shina hit the ball just outside the penalty area, and then the Shakhtar goalkeeper landed a spectacular shot from the neck.
The moment of the fight was spent in agonizing control of the ball by the home team, who were not particularly bothered by their rivals. Lviv also conceded the fifth goal, but after the break, when Marcos Antonio fled to a counterattack, after which he passed a crooked shot from the left flank of the penalty area to Manor Solomon, who replaced the injured Kovalenko. After that, Castro devoted himself exclusively to trying to protect his leading artists from unnecessary injury. In such a situation, there was practically no initiative in the Shakhtar’s attack, and the opponents were only able to throw a few long-distance shots, which Trubin coped with without problems.
After the UEFA Champions League game, Shakhtar Donetsk will play away from home with Vorskla Poltava. PFC Lviv will look forward to a home game with Dnipro-1 Dnipro.
